In the past, setting up a new business involved needing a lot of start-up money. You had to find office space or workshop space, get the necessary equipment, and file all the correct paperwork. Today, however, it’s fairly easy to start an online business. While you may still need space to create the products you’re selling, many people are able to run online businesses right out of their houses. There are several advantages to this.
First, you don’t need an actual store or place of business—you can often do it all from your home. This saves not only on rent money but also on utilities and buying furniture and equipment for your office. Instead, you can use furniture you have at home. All you really need is your computer, an internet connection, and a website. While you may think getting a website up and running is expensive, it really isn’t.
The biggest expense your online business will have, at least at first, is marketing. You’ll need to get the name and web address of your site out to as many people as possible. This means advertising online and offline—hand out business cards, post flyers around town, and even send out emails to your friends and family. Once you’ve got people interested, it’s only a matter of time before your online business flourishes.
